The second session of the course given by Jordi Morata will be tomorrow Wednesday at 16.30 in the Aula Gabriel Oliver, at the basement of the Josep Carner building (-1 floor).

April BIB events

This April is charged with exciting events in our group. In April 18th, we'll be honored to have Bernat Corominas-Murtra (Complex Systems Lab UPF - PRBB) talk to us about the thresholds language helps us to overcome. In his talk, Corominas-Murtra explores current mathematical approaches to language including Shannon's theorem on Channel capacity, the role of duality of patterning in language, and the notion of infinity in language. After this, we'll have the UB geneticist Jordi Morata give us a three-day introductory course on basic genetics. This course will take place on April 24th, 26th, and 27th (each day at 16:30h) and will serve as preparation to the talks on genetics and language that Antonio Benítez Burraco (Universidad de Huelva & University of Oxford) will deliver for us on May 3rd and 4th. Benítez talks will be in Spanish and their titles are "El lenguaje como problema evolutivo (y una posible solución computacional)" on May 3rd at 16:30h, and "El análisis genético de los trastornos del lenguaje (con una adenda sobre el problema de la modularidad)" on May 4th at 10h. Previously, on May 2nd, Ricard Solé (Complex Systems Lab UPF - PRBB) will also give a talk on the last achievements on the study of population-level dynamics of language. Individual postings for each of these events will be published in this blog as we get closer to their dates. We will also send off email reminders for them.
